German numbers are harder to find than French ones, and more of them are landlines. Pipecorn bills you for the mobiles it finds and gives you the landlines for free.

Measured, not estimated

## What a test on 1,000 hard contacts returned

A software company that sells in France and Germany ran its own waterfall of three well-known providers. It found a phone number for 78% of its French prospects and 41% of its German ones.

In September 2026 it sent us 1,000 German prospects that this waterfall had missed several times, with the search limited to German, Austrian and Swiss numbers. Pipecorn found 162 numbers, and 158 of them were usable: 48 mobiles and 110 landlines.

That added about 16 points to the team's find rate in Germany, on contacts it had given up on. The split is the part to plan for. On this list, landlines outnumbered mobiles two to one, so a German calling campaign works better when reps are ready to dial a landline.

Results depend on the list: seniority, industry and company size all move the find rate. The only figure that holds for your list is the one you measure on it.

How Pipecorn handles it

## What happens to a _German_ contact

Every lookup runs through a [waterfall of 100+ providers](https://pipecorn.com/waterfall-enrichment) and stops at the first verified match.

1. ### Routed by country
The waterfall sends a German contact to the providers that cover Germany first. A provider that only knows US numbers is skipped, because it would hand back an American number.
2. ### Only German numbers
Set your default phone countries in the app, or send `phone_country_codes: ["DE"]` with an API call, and numbers from other countries are left out.
3. ### Mobiles billed, landlines free
A mobile costs 30 credits. A landline found along the way is returned at no cost. Send `phone_type: ["mobile"]` if you want mobiles only.
4. ### Check before you pay
`/contacts/check_data_availability` tells you for free whether we hold a mobile for a profile, and a search preview shows the count before you build a list.

Before you dial

## Calling businesses in Germany

Section 7 of the UWG, Germany's unfair competition law, decides whether you may make the call. A call to a consumer needs their prior express consent. A call to a business needs at least presumed consent: a concrete reason to think the company wants to hear from you, tied to what it does.

In practice, call a company about something close to its core business, and write down why each segment fits. Courts read presumed consent narrowly, so have a lawyer look at your targeting and your script before you scale.

The GDPR applies on top. Tell people on the first call where you got their number, and stop when they object.
