# How to build a targeted B2B prospect list with filters

> Filter companies by industry, size, location and signals, then people by title, seniority and new hire. Save both lists and enrich the leads. Steps and video.

Source: https://pipecorn.com/pipeschool/filters

To build a targeted B2B prospect list in Pipecorn, filter **Companies** by industry, company size and location, add signals like funding or hiring if you need them, and save the result as a list. Then open **Leads**, filter the people by job title, seniority, their company's industry and headcount and where they are based, turn on **New hire**, save them and enrich their emails and mobiles.

Two passes make the list targeted. The first picks the right companies at the right moment, and the second keeps only the buyers inside them. The video above shows both in 32 seconds, and each step below has its screenshot.

## What you need

A Pipecorn account and your targeting written as filters. Here is what each side of the search can filter on:

* **Companies.** Company name, industry, company type, location, company size, department headcount, annual revenue and year founded, plus signals for headcount growth, hiring, technology, funding and website traffic. Keyword search also takes AND, OR, NOT and parentheses.
* **Leads.** Job titles, seniority, function, location, the company's industry and headcount, years in the current role and at the company, and signals such as **New hire**.
* **Plan.** Company signals need the Grow plan or higher. Saved leads count toward your monthly leads and saved companies toward your monthly companies (see [Pricing](https://pipecorn.com/pricing)).
* **Credits.** Filtering and counting are free. Credits are only spent when you enrich, 3 for a work email and 30 for a mobile.

## Build the prospect list, step by step

1. ### Filter companies by industry, size and location
Open **Companies** from the sidebar. Under **COMPANY**, pick an **Industry** such as **Software Development**, tick the **Company size** ranges that fit (for example 51-200 and 201-500 employees), and add a **Location**.
The search reruns by itself after each filter, and the count at the top (About N companies) drops as you go. There is no Search button to press.

Industry, Company size and Location, under COMPANY
2. ### Add signals like funding or hiring
Scroll to **SIGNALS** to keep only the companies doing something right now: **Headcount Growth**, **Hiring**, **Technology**, **Funding** and **Website Traffic**. In **Funding**, **Raised in the last** offers Any time, Month, Quarter or Year.
Hiring and Technology can't be combined with some of the other filters. When you turn one on, the filters that don't work with it are greyed out.
![The SIGNALS section of the Companies filters with Funding open and Raised in the last set to Year, below Headcount Growth, Hiring and Technology](https://res.cloudinary.com/dqqyl36ed/video/upload/so_13.4,c_fill,ar_16:9,w_1280,f_auto,q_auto/pipecorn/university/filters.jpg)
Funding, raised in the last year
3. ### Save the companies as a list
With no row ticked, **Add to list** takes the whole search (All N matches). Click **Create new list**, name it, for example US SaaS 51-500 · funded, and click **Save**. This list is your set of target accounts.

Add to list, Create new list, Save
4. ### Open Leads and add job titles and seniority
Open **Leads**. Under **PEOPLE**, pick a suggested **Job title** such as **VP Sales**, or type one like Head of Sales and press Enter. Then pick the **Seniority** levels you sell to, such as **Vice President** and **Director**.
![Pipecorn Leads with the Job title chips VP Sales and Head of Sales and the Seniority filter set to Vice President and Director](https://res.cloudinary.com/dqqyl36ed/video/upload/so_18.9,c_fill,ar_16:9,w_1280,f_auto,q_auto/pipecorn/university/filters.jpg)

5. ### Narrow it with the company's industry, headcount and location
Under **COMPANY** in the Leads filters, set the same **Industry** and **Headcount** you used for the accounts. Under **PEOPLE**, add the **Location** where the people are based.

6. ### Turn on New hire
Scroll to **SIGNALS** and turn on **New hire**. It keeps the people who joined a new company in the last 90 days. The count drops, and the **Job started** column shows recent months.

7. ### Save the leads to a list
Click **Add to list**, then **Create new list**, name it (for example US sales leaders · new hires) and click **Add to list**. As the popover says, this saves their LinkedIn profiles without enriching, uses no credits and counts toward your monthly leads.
![The Add to list popover over the new-hire search, with all matches in this search, the note that no credits are used, and the new list name US sales leaders · new hires](https://res.cloudinary.com/dqqyl36ed/video/upload/so_28,c_fill,ar_16:9,w_1280,f_auto,q_auto/pipecorn/university/filters.jpg)
Save them as a new list
8. ### Enrich their emails and mobiles
Click **Enrich leads**, choose **All in search** and **Continue**, then tick **Work email** and **Mobile phone**. **SAVE RESULTS TO** shows your new list, and the button gives the most the run can cost. As the footnote says, credits are only charged for the contacts Pipecorn finds.

## What the list costs

Filtering, counting and resolving industries cost nothing. Saving companies and leads uses your plan's monthly quotas. Build includes 2,000 companies imported and 5,000 leads exported a month, and Grow 10,000 and 25,000\. The company signals, hiring included, need Grow or higher.

Enrichment is the only part that spends credits, 3 for a work email and 30 for a mobile, and a contact Pipecorn doesn't find costs nothing. [Pay only for what Pipecorn finds](https://pipecorn.com/pipeschool/credits) shows where to check each charge.

## Tips for a sharper prospect list

* **Only people at your saved accounts.** Your saved company list can be used as a filter in Leads, so the people search stays inside those accounts. [Find the people inside your target accounts](https://pipecorn.com/pipeschool/company-list) shows it on an imported list.
* **People first when the role matters most.** If you sell to a role more than to a type of company, start in Leads, then check who is Qualified before you download. See [how to build an ICP list](https://pipecorn.com/pipeschool/icp-list).
* **Check what Hiring or Technology greys out.** They can't be combined with some company filters, so turn one on before you build the rest of the search and see which filters are still available. [Pipecorn signals](https://pipecorn.com/signals) covers each one.
* **Split by geography.** One list per country or region keeps outreach in the right language and time zone. [Geographic targeting in B2B outbound](https://pipecorn.com/blog/geographic-targeting) goes deeper.
* **Keep watching after the first list.** New hire looks back 90 days. To keep following new hires and job changes, see [how to track job changes](https://pipecorn.com/track-job-changes).

## Questions

### What is the difference between company filters and people filters?

Company filters pick the accounts by industry, size, location, revenue, founding year and signals like funding or hiring. People filters pick the buyers inside them by job title, seniority, function, location and time in the role. A targeted list uses both.

### Which filters work best for a targeted sales list?

Start with the ones that define fit (industry, company size, location), then the buyer (job title and seniority), then one timing filter, such as Funding on the companies or New hire on the people. Watch the count after each one so the list doesn't get too small.

### What does the New hire filter do?

It keeps the people who joined a new company in the last 90 days.

### Can I filter companies by funding?

Yes. Under SIGNALS, open Funding and set Raised in the last to Any time, Month, Quarter or Year. Company signals need the Grow plan or higher.

### Why are some filters greyed out?

Hiring and Technology signals can't be combined with some other company filters. When one of them is on, the filters that don't work with it are greyed out.

### Do filters cost credits?

No. Filtering and counting are free. Saving uses your plan's monthly leads and companies, and credits are only spent when you enrich an email (3) or a mobile (30) that Pipecorn finds.

### Can I use these filters without Sales Navigator?

Yes. Search, the signals and enrichment all run on the Pipecorn database, so no Sales Navigator seat is needed. If you prefer Sales Navigator's own filters, see [Sales Navigator filters](https://pipecorn.com/sales-navigator/filters).
