# How to build an ICP list, from filters to file

> Build an ICP list in Pipecorn. Filter people by title, seniority, industry and headcount, preview them, save the list for free and download the qualified leads.

Source: https://pipecorn.com/pipeschool/icp-list

To build an ICP list, open **Leads** in Pipecorn, filter by the job titles and seniority you sell to, narrow it down by company industry, headcount and location, then click **Add to list** and create a new list. Open the list to see who is **Qualified**, and download those leads as a CSV or Excel file from the **⋮** menu.

Searching, previewing and saving cost no credits. Saving only counts toward your plan's monthly leads. The video above runs the whole thing in 44 seconds, and each step below has its screenshot.

## What you need before you build the list

You need a Pipecorn account and an idea of who you sell to, written down as filters you can pick: job titles, seniority, the industry and size of their company, and where they are based. If your ideal customer profile is still a sentence like "mid-market SaaS", [What is an ICP](https://pipecorn.com/blog/what-is-an-icp) helps you turn it into criteria first.

Nothing else is needed. The search runs on the [Pipecorn lead database](https://pipecorn.com/lead-database), so you don't need a Sales Navigator seat.

* **Plan.** Every plan can search, preview and save. Saved leads count toward your monthly leads, which are 500 on Free, 5,000 on Build, 25,000 on Grow and unlimited on Scale. To download the whole list you need a paid subscription. Without one, the Download modal offers to export up to 10 contacts for free.
* **Credits.** None for this tutorial. Credits are only spent if you enrich emails or mobiles, which is optional and covered at the end.
* **Role.** To download, your role must be allowed to export leads (owner, admin, manager, or a member in a workspace where members may export).

## Build your ICP list in Pipecorn, step by step

1. ### Add the job titles and seniority you sell to
Open **Leads** from the sidebar. Under **PEOPLE**, open **Job title** and pick a suggestion such as **VP Sales**, or type a title like Head of Sales and press Enter. Each title becomes a green chip.
Then open **Seniority** and pick the levels that buy from you, for example **Vice President** and **Director**. The count of leads at the top updates with every filter.
![Pipecorn Leads search with the Job title filter set to VP Sales and Head of Sales, and the Seniority dropdown open with Vice President and Director picked](https://res.cloudinary.com/dqqyl36ed/video/upload/so_8.7,c_fill,ar_16:9,w_1280,f_auto,q_auto/pipecorn/university/icp-list.jpg)
Job title and Seniority, under PEOPLE
2. ### Narrow it down by industry, headcount and location
Scroll up to **COMPANY**. In **Industry**, pick your market, for example **Software Development**. In **Headcount**, tick the company sizes that fit, such as 51-200 and 201-500.
Back under **PEOPLE**, type a country in **Location** and pick it. This filter is where the person is based.
![Leads filter panel with Industry set to Software Development and Headcount 51-200 and 201-500 ticked, the lead count and the results table updated](https://res.cloudinary.com/dqqyl36ed/video/upload/so_12,c_fill,ar_16:9,w_1280,f_auto,q_auto/pipecorn/university/icp-list.jpg)
Industry and Headcount, under COMPANY
3. ### Preview a lead before you save
Click any row to open the lead's side panel. It shows where the person is based, their LinkedIn, their experience, and a **Current company** card with the company's industry, size, location, founding year and website. Check a few rows to confirm the filters match the people you had in mind.
The panel also lists what each contact would cost to enrich, but nothing is spent unless you pick something to enrich.

The side panel, with the current company
4. ### Save the search as a new list
Click **Add to list**. The popover takes all the matches in your search. Click **Create new list**, name it (for example ICP · US SaaS sales leaders), click **Create**, then **Add to list**.
The note in the popover says Pipecorn saves their LinkedIn profiles without enriching, so no credits are used. The leads count toward your monthly leads.

Saving the profiles uses no credits
5. ### Check who is Qualified
Open the **My Lists** tab and click your list. Each lead's status is **Qualified**, or it shows the reason the lead doesn't fit, such as **Title mismatch**, **Is open to work** or **Is already in the CRM**.
This is the fit check that a filter alone doesn't give you, so read the reasons before you decide what goes in the file.
![A saved list in Pipecorn with the Status column showing Qualified for most leads and the reasons Is open to work, Is already in the CRM and Title mismatch on others](https://res.cloudinary.com/dqqyl36ed/video/upload/so_30.5,c_fill,ar_16:9,w_1280,f_auto,q_auto/pipecorn/university/icp-list.jpg)
Qualified, or the reason it doesn't fit
6. ### Download the qualified leads as CSV or Excel
Open the **⋮** menu at the top right of the list and click **Download**. Under **Export options**, **Qualified** is ticked and **Disqualified** isn't, so only the leads that fit go in the file. The line below says how many leads will be exported.
Click the arrow next to **Download** and pick **CSV** or **Excel**. The file is named after your list, like Pipecorn\_lead\_export\_<list name>\_<date>.csv.
![The Download modal with Lead status Qualified ticked and Disqualified unticked, and the Download button's menu open on CSV and Excel](https://res.cloudinary.com/dqqyl36ed/video/upload/so_36.4,c_fill,ar_16:9,w_1280,f_auto,q_auto/pipecorn/university/icp-list.jpg)
Keep the qualified leads, pick CSV or Excel
7. ### Want emails and mobiles? Enrich before you download
A downloaded list carries the profiles, not contact details. To get work emails and mobiles in the file, click **Enrich leads** on the list first, then download. The export then includes the emails and phones found, and the modal adds filters for email and phone status.
![The saved list ICP · US SaaS sales leaders with the cursor on the Enrich leads button at the top right](https://res.cloudinary.com/dqqyl36ed/video/upload/so_41.3,c_fill,ar_16:9,w_1280,f_auto,q_auto/pipecorn/university/icp-list.jpg)
Enrich leads, then download

## What building an ICP list costs

Filtering, previewing and saving the list cost no credits, and downloading it doesn't either, though a full download needs a paid subscription. What saving uses is your plan's monthly leads quota, which is separate from credits. The free plan includes 500 exported leads and 150 credits a month, with no credit card.

Credits only come in if you enrich. A work email costs 3, a personal email 9 and a mobile 30, and only for the contacts Pipecorn finds. See [Pay only for what Pipecorn finds](https://pipecorn.com/pipeschool/credits) for how each charge shows up, and [Pricing](https://pipecorn.com/pricing) for the paid plans.

## Tips for a cleaner ICP list

* **Watch the count as you add filters.** It updates with every change, so you see at once which filter cut the list too far.
* **Start from companies when the company matters most.** If funding, hiring or a precise set of firms defines your ICP, [combine company and people filters](https://pipecorn.com/pipeschool/filters) instead, or [find the people inside your own target accounts](https://pipecorn.com/pipeschool/company-list).
* **Read the reasons before you download.** Each one says why a lead was left out of the file, so you can change a filter or keep the lead out on purpose. [The lead qualification process](https://pipecorn.com/blog/lead-qualification-process) covers what to do with the leads that don't fit.
* **Keep one list per segment.** A list per country, size band or vertical keeps each file small and easy to sequence.

## Questions

### What is an ICP list?

It is a list of the people who match your ideal customer profile, meaning the right job titles and seniority, at companies of the right industry and size, in the right place. In Pipecorn you build it with filters on the lead database and save it as a list. For the definition itself, see [What does ICP stand for in business](https://pipecorn.com/blog/what-does-icp-stand-for-in-business).

### Does saving leads to a list use credits?

No. Saving stores their LinkedIn profiles without enriching, so no credits are used. It counts toward your plan's monthly leads.

### What does Qualified mean in my list?

Each saved lead is checked against your criteria. A lead that fits is marked Qualified. One that doesn't shows the reason, such as Title mismatch, Industry mismatch, Is open to work or Is already in the CRM.

### Can I export the list to Excel?

Yes. In the Download modal, open the arrow next to Download and pick CSV or Excel.

### Why don't I see Download in the menu?

Your role must be allowed to export leads. Owners, admins and managers can, and members can when the workspace lets members export. Ask an admin if the option is missing.

### Do I need Sales Navigator to build an ICP list?

No. The search, the preview and the list all run on the Pipecorn database. If you already use Sales Navigator, the Chrome extension can also send a Sales Navigator search to Pipecorn.
