# Types of buying signals and where to find each one

> The 11 types of buying signals in Pipecorn: 7 for companies, 4 for people. What each one finds, where it sits in the filters, and which plan includes it.

Source: https://pipecorn.com/pipeschool/signals

Pipecorn has 11 types of buying signals. Seven are company signals, in the filters of **Companies**: Headcount Growth, Hiring, Technology, Funding, Website Traffic, Lookalikes and Competitors. Four are people signals, in the filters of **Leads**: New hire, Promoted, Competitor Followers and Social Posts.

Most of them are filters you add next to your usual ones, like industry, location or job title. This page goes through them one by one, with what each finds and the screenshot of where it is. To learn what each signal costs and how to stack them into one search that runs every week, see [Use signals to find buyers](https://pipecorn.com/pipeschool/using-signals).

## Which plan includes which signal

Most signals are on the Grow plan and higher, and Lookalikes starts on Build. The [pricing page](https://pipecorn.com/pricing) has the full table, and the [buying signals](https://pipecorn.com/signals) page gives the overview.

* **Grow and higher.** Headcount Growth, Hiring, Technology, Funding, Website Traffic, Competitors, Competitor Followers and Social Posts.
* **Build and higher.** Lookalikes.

## The 7 company buying signals

Company signals live in **Companies**. The first five sit under **SIGNALS** in the filter panel, and Lookalikes and Competitors sit under **DEEP SEARCH**. Start from a base search, for example an industry, a country and a company size, then add one signal and watch the count change.

1. ### Headcount Growth
Headcount Growth finds companies that grew their team. Pick a **Period** (Year over year, 6 months, Quarter over quarter or Month over month), then drag **Company-wide growth** to the minimum growth you want. **Department growth** narrows it to one team, like Sales.
![Pipecorn Companies search with the Headcount Growth signal open, Period set to Year over year and the Company-wide growth slider at 20%+](https://res.cloudinary.com/dqqyl36ed/video/upload/so_9.3,c_fill,ar_16:9,w_1280,f_auto,q_auto/pipecorn/university/signals.jpg)

2. ### Hiring
Hiring finds companies with an open job post. Type the role under **Job titles** and press Enter, then pick how recent the post is under **Published in**, from the last 24 hours to the last 6 months. You can also search **Keywords in job description**, filter the **Job location**, and tick **Exclude consulting/recruiting** or **Full-time roles only**.
An **Offer** column appears in the results with the exact job title of each post. While Hiring is on, filters such as Headcount Growth, Funding, Lookalikes and Competitors are greyed out. Industry, location and company size keep working.

3. ### Technology
Technology finds the companies that use a tool. Search for it under **Search technologies…** or click one of the **Popular technologies**, like HubSpot. A **Technologies** column shows the tools each company uses. Like Hiring, it greys out Headcount Growth, Funding, Lookalikes and Competitors. [Technographic data](https://pipecorn.com/blog/technographic-data) explains why the tools a company uses tell you something.

4. ### Funding
Funding finds companies that raised money, and how much. Under **Raised in the last**, pick Any time, Month, Quarter or Year, then drag **Raised amount (USD millions)** to the minimum round size.
![Companies search with the Funding signal, Raised in the last set to Year and the Raised amount (USD millions) slider at $10M+](https://res.cloudinary.com/dqqyl36ed/video/upload/so_21,c_fill,ar_16:9,w_1280,f_auto,q_auto/pipecorn/university/signals.jpg)
Funding, by date and by amount raised
5. ### Website Traffic
Website Traffic finds companies by the number of visitors to their site, and by how fast that number grows. Drag **Website traffic** to a minimum, pick **Traffic growth** month over month or quarter over quarter, then set the **Growth Range**.
![Companies search with the Website Traffic signal, Website traffic at 100K+, Traffic growth Quarter over quarter and Growth Range at +20%](https://res.cloudinary.com/dqqyl36ed/video/upload/so_26,c_fill,ar_16:9,w_1280,f_auto,q_auto/pipecorn/university/signals.jpg)
Website Traffic, by visitors and by growth
6. ### Lookalikes
Lookalikes finds companies like one you pick. Under **Find similar companies**, type a company name and select it. Pipecorn then writes the keyword search for you and fills the **Keyword** field with it. The [lookalike companies](https://pipecorn.com/lookalike-companies) page covers this signal in more depth.

Lookalikes writes the keyword search for you
7. ### Competitors
Competitors lists the competitors of any company. Under **Find a company's competitors**, search the company by name and pick it. A company's competitors can be any size and in any country, so the video removes the company size and location filters before this search.

## The 4 people buying signals

People signals live in **Leads**. New hire and Promoted are two switches under **SIGNALS**. Competitor Followers and Social Posts sit under **DEEP SEARCH**, and each one runs as its own search.

1. ### New hire
New hire keeps the people who joined a new company in the last 90 days. Turn the switch on next to your job titles and location to keep only the buyers who just arrived in their role. To hear about new ones every week, see [Get alerts for new hires and job changes](https://pipecorn.com/pipeschool/job-change-alert).
![Pipecorn Leads search for VP Sales and Head of Sales in the United States, with the New hire switch on, labelled Joined a new company in the last 90 days](https://res.cloudinary.com/dqqyl36ed/video/upload/so_38.5,c_fill,ar_16:9,w_1280,f_auto,q_auto/pipecorn/university/signals.jpg)
New hire, joined a new company in the last 90 days
2. ### Promoted
Promoted keeps the people who started a new role at the same company in the last 90 days.
![Leads search with the Promoted switch on, labelled Started a new role at the same company in the last 90 days](https://res.cloudinary.com/dqqyl36ed/video/upload/so_42,c_fill,ar_16:9,w_1280,f_auto,q_auto/pipecorn/university/signals.jpg)
Promoted, a new role at the same company
3. ### Competitor Followers
Competitor Followers lists the people who follow a competitor's LinkedIn page. Search the company under **Competitor Followers** and pick it. The results show the number of followers, with **← Back to search** to return.
This signal runs on its own. While a company is selected, the other filters and signals are greyed out, and the panel says to remove the company to use them again.
![Leads search with Gong selected under Competitor Followers, the notice that Competitor Followers runs on its own, and the followers listed with their job titles](https://res.cloudinary.com/dqqyl36ed/video/upload/so_46.5,c_fill,ar_16:9,w_1280,f_auto,q_auto/pipecorn/university/signals.jpg)
The people who follow Gong's LinkedIn page
4. ### Social Posts
Social Posts lists who liked or commented on a LinkedIn post. Paste the **LinkedIn post URL**, pick the **Engagement** (All, Reactions only or Comments only), add a **Persona** if you want one, tick **Exclude coworkers**, then click **Find leads**. Social Posts and Competitor Followers can't run together, so clear one before you use the other.
![Leads search with Social Posts open, a LinkedIn post URL pasted, Engagement set to All (reactions + comments), Exclude coworkers on, and the Find leads button, above the results found](https://res.cloudinary.com/dqqyl36ed/video/upload/so_50.5,c_fill,ar_16:9,w_1280,f_auto,q_auto/pipecorn/university/signals.jpg)
Everyone who reacted to or commented on a post

## Save the list and enrich it

Mix signals with your usual filters, then click **Add to list** to save the result, and **Enrich leads** to get the work emails and mobiles.

Competitor Followers costs 1 credit per follower you extract, with a minimum of 1,000\. Hiring and Technology searches are free, and saving their companies to a list costs 3 credits per company. A work email costs 3 credits and a mobile 30, only when Pipecorn finds them. [Use signals to find buyers](https://pipecorn.com/pipeschool/using-signals) goes through every cost and shows how to stack signals into one weekly search.

![Leads search with New hire on for VP Sales and Head of Sales in the United States, the Add to list button highlighted at the top right next to the edge of the Enrich leads button](https://res.cloudinary.com/dqqyl36ed/video/upload/so_52.8,c_fill,ar_16:9,w_1280,f_auto,q_auto/pipecorn/university/signals.jpg)

Add to list, then Enrich leads

## Which of these types of buying signals to start with

* **You sell to a team that is growing.** Start with Headcount Growth and its Department growth filter, or Hiring with the role you sell to.
* **You replace a tool.** Technology finds the companies that use it today, and Competitor Followers finds the people who follow its LinkedIn page.
* **You sell to one buyer.** New hire on top of their job title keeps the ones who just arrived in the role.
* **You already have a customer you like.** Lookalikes turns it into a search for similar companies.

## Questions

### How many buying signals does Pipecorn have?

Eleven. Seven for companies (Headcount Growth, Hiring, Technology, Funding, Website Traffic, Lookalikes, Competitors) and four for people (New hire, Promoted, Competitor Followers, Social Posts).

New hire keeps people who joined a new company in the last 90 days. Promoted keeps people who started a new role at the same company in the last 90 days.

### Can I combine several signals in one search?

Some of them. Hiring and Technology grey out Headcount Growth, Funding, Lookalikes and Competitors, but keep industry, location and company size. Grow or higher for Headcount Growth, Hiring, Technology, Funding, Website Traffic, Competitors, Competitor Followers and Social Posts. Lookalikes starts on Build. See [Pricing](https://pipecorn.com/pricing).

### Do signals cost credits?

Some do when you take the results. Extracting competitor followers costs 1 credit per follower, with a minimum of 1,000\. A Hiring or Technology search is free, and saving its companies to a list costs 3 credits per company. Enriching emails and mobiles is charged separately, 3 and 30 credits per contact found.

### Can I find people who commented on a LinkedIn post?

Yes. In Leads, open Social Posts, paste the post's URL, set Engagement to Comments only and click Find leads. Tick Exclude coworkers to leave out your own coworkers.
